6 years searching for my brother Nneka from Mogadishu

Nneka, my beloved brother, left Mogadishu in 2020. The distance was supposed to be temporary. It wasn't. Economic hardship forced many in our community to seek opportunities abroad. Nneka, then 47, left with the blessing of the whole family. We stayed in touch through phone calls and the occasional letter. Nneka spoke of life in Bristol — the challenges of adapting, the loneliness, but also the small victories. Someone who knew them mentioned seeing them in 2025. The phone number was disconnected and we had no other way to reach them. I remember walking to school together every morning, rain or shine with Nneka. Those are the memories I hold onto. Nneka would be around 53 today. short and stocky, with a round face and kind eyes. I still keep their photo in my wallet, worn and faded but precious.
