My brother Alina, lost during the evacuation of Dnipro

When Russia invaded, my brother Alina was in Dnipro. I managed to get out. They didn't. I've been searching ever since. Alina was 37 years old at the time. The last message I received was a text saying they were heading to the shelter. I made it to Germany through Romania. From Cologne, I've been contacting every refugee organization, every volunteer group, every social media page dedicated to finding missing Ukrainians. Alina was broad-shouldered, strong hands, with a weathered face. They had dimples when smiling, very noticeable. I remember teaching me to ride a bicycle in the backyard with Alina. Our life in Dnipro before the war was peaceful. We never imagined it would come to this. Sometimes I hear their voice in my dreams and wake up reaching for the phone.
