My family member Jose — we were torn apart in 2023

My heart has had a hole in it since 2023, when my family member Jose disappeared from our lives. Gang threats forced the family to flee with nothing but the clothes on our backs. Jose had just turned 16 when it happened. Everything fell apart during a raid on the workplace in Phoenix. I remember playing soccer in the dusty field behind our neighborhood with Jose. The messages suddenly stopped in 2024. Since then, complete silence. Jose would be around 19 years old now. I'd recognize them anywhere — small-framed but tough, with sharp features.
