Santiago from Venezuela — we've been searching since 2019

Santiago, my grandfather, left Valencia in 2003 heading for Chicago. That was the last chapter I know of their story. Organized crime made our neighborhood unlivable. Leaving was survival. Santiago had just turned 20. We said our goodbyes at the airport, promising it wouldn't be forever. Communication was steady at first — weekly calls, photos of Chicago, stories about the new life. Santiago seemed to be adapting well, working in garment factories, making friends slowly. The phone number stopped working around 2019. Life got complicated on both ends and the calls became less frequent until they stopped entirely. Santiago had a way of seeing the best in people. Santiago would be around 43 now. tall, around 6'1", slender, with a warm smile. Not a day goes by when I don't think about them.
