Searching for Halima, my cousin who moved to United States in 1991

Halima, my beloved cousin, left Ibadan in 1991. The distance was supposed to be temporary. It wasn't. Ethnic tensions in our region made it dangerous to stay. Halima, then 38, left with the blessing of the whole family. We stayed in touch through phone calls and the occasional letter. Halima spoke of life in Atlanta — the challenges of adapting, the loneliness, but also the small victories. The last time we heard anything was 2012.
