I was adopted from Dire Dawa in 2002 and brought to Denver. My adoptive parents gave me everything I could have asked for, but there's a piece of my story that's missing.
From what I've been able to learn, I was in the care of a local orphanage in Dire Dawa before being adopted.
Growing up, I always felt something was missing. Not love — my adoptive family gave me plenty of that. But identity. Where do my eyes come from? My laugh? My stubborn streak? These are questions only my birth family can answer.
Recently I started searching in earnest. Social media, DNA databases, adoption reunion registries — I'm casting as wide a net as possible.
