Adoptee from Russia (2004) searching for birth family
Fatima Al-Hassan Russia , Yekaterinburg ≈ 2004 41 views
I was adopted from Yekaterinburg in 2004 and brought to New York. My adoptive parents gave me everything I could have asked for, but there's a piece of my story that's missing.
The adoption was arranged through a state-run children's home. My adoptive parents traveled to Yekaterinburg to bring me home.
My adoptive parents have always been open about my adoption. They told me what little they knew: that my birth family couldn't provide for another child. That knowledge has always made me want to reach out, not with anger, but with gratitude.
I've tried DNA testing, online registries, and even hired a researcher who specializes in Russia adoptions. Each lead brings me a little closer, but I haven't found the answer yet.
If you are my birth mother, or if you know someone from Yekaterinburg who placed a child for adoption around 2004, please know: I am doing well. I am at peace. I would love nothing more than to know you, but I respect whatever boundaries you need. I just need to know they're alive. That would be enough.
