The story
My family member, Karim, and I were separated during the conflict in Baghdad in 2009. I have spent every moment since trying to find them.
We walked for days through the desert to reach the border. During the night the militants entered our town, Karim was separated from the rest of us.
Karim was 48 years old when we last saw each other. We were inseparable before the war changed everything.
The last time we heard anything was 2023. A fellow refugee mentioned seeing someone matching their description in a camp near Birmingham.
Karim would now be approximately 65 years old. I would recognize them anywhere — average height, lean build, with curly black hair.
Sometimes I hear their voice in my dreams and wake up reaching for the phone. If anyone has information about Karim, I beg you to contact us. War took everything from us. Please don't let it take this last chance.
