My brother Amara emigrated in 2003 — we've been searching ever since

I've been looking for my brother Amara since 2003. This platform is my latest attempt to bridge the gap that opened when they left. The conflict in our region displaced our entire community. Back then, Amara was 37 years old and believed the separation would be short. For the first 17 months, we received occasional calls. Amara was working in garment factories in Seattle and seemed to be doing okay. They talked about sending money home, about eventually bringing us over. A friend saw them around 2009.
