My brother Natalia, lost during the evacuation of Kharkiv
Emily Campbell Canada , Winnipeg ≈ 2023 2572 views
Before February 2023, Kharkiv was home. My brother Natalia and I had a life there. Then everything changed.
When the evacuation of the city, communications collapsed. Natalia, who was 71, was last known to be near Kharkiv. The evacuation routes kept changing and we ended up in different convoys.
After arriving in Winnipeg, I registered with UNHCR. So far, no matches.
Natalia was heavyset, with a booming laugh and gentle eyes. They had always wore a watch on the right wrist, never the left.
Before the war, Natalia and I shared a simple but good life in Kharkiv. the way they would hum while doing chores around the house — those memories keep me going.
Not a day goes by when I don't think about them. If you have any information about Natalia from Kharkiv, please contact us. They may be in any country at this point — displaced Ukrainians are scattered across Europe.
