My sister Maryam, separated by war in 2013

In 2013, the war tore my family apart in Baghdad. My sister, Maryam, was lost in the chaos and I have never found them. We walked for days through the desert to reach the border. During the invasion of our village, Maryam was separated from the rest of us. I remember Maryam as someone who always kept the family spirits up. I cherish the memory of the birthday parties where the whole block would show up. The phone number stopped working around 2022. We heard a rumor they had been resettled in United Kingdom, but nothing concrete. Maryam would now be approximately 21 years old. They were tall, around 6'1", slender, with a warm smile, with a birthmark on the right side of the neck. Sometimes I hear their voice in my dreams and wake up reaching for the phone.
