I'm searching for my grandfather, Hawa, who left Kano in 2012. We lost touch and I've been looking ever since.
A family member abroad promised to help, but the journey was longer and harder than anyone expected. Hawa, then 23, left with the blessing of the whole family.
Communication was sporadic but hopeful. Hawa described Chicago as overwhelming but full of opportunity. They were working hard, sleeping little, but always asking about everyone back home.
