Searching for Hawa, my aunt who moved to United Kingdom in 2013

Hawa, my beloved aunt, left Abuja in 2013. The distance was supposed to be temporary. It wasn't. We pooled money from the entire extended family to send one person to find work abroad. Hawa was 32 at the time, full of hope and determination. Communication was sporadic but hopeful. Hawa described Leeds as overwhelming but full of opportunity. They were working hard, sleeping little, but always asking about everyone back home. There was a brief call in 2014. We tried everything — calling mutual friends, reaching out to the diaspora community — but no one had recent news. What I miss most is the way they would hum while doing chores around the house. Hawa would be around 45 today. medium height, athletic build, with a distinctive walk. My children ask about them, and I don't have answers to give.
