Searching for my sister Maksym from Kharkiv, Ukraine
Jessica Taylor Canada , Vancouver ≈ 2022 41 views
Maksym is my sister. We were separated during the evacuation of Kharkiv. In the panic and confusion, we went in different directions.
When the siege that trapped civilians for weeks, communications collapsed. Maksym, who was 13, was last known to be near Kharkiv. We had arranged to meet at a rendezvous point but they never showed up.
I made it to Canada through Poland. From Vancouver, I've been contacting every refugee organization, every volunteer group, every social media page dedicated to finding missing Ukrainians.
Maksym was tall for the family, around 5'10", with an easy grin. They had eyes that changed color slightly in different light.
I remember the birthday parties where the whole block would show up with Maksym. Our life in Kharkiv before the war was peaceful. We never imagined it would come to this.
I've never stopped looking. I never will. If you have any information about Maksym from Kharkiv, please contact us. They may be in any country at this point — displaced Ukrainians are scattered across Europe.
