I am an adoptee, born in Seoul around 1982. For as long as I can remember, I've carried questions about where I came from.
From what I've been able to learn, I was in the care of a church-run orphanage in Seoul before being adopted.
Growing up, I always felt something was missing. Not love — my adoptive family gave me plenty of that. But identity. Where do my eyes come from? My laugh? My stubborn streak? These are questions only my birth family can answer.
Recently I started searching in earnest. Social media, DNA databases, adoption reunion registries — I'm casting as wide a net as possible.
