My brother Faisal, separated by war in 2008

I lost my brother Faisal during the evacuation of Erbil in 2008. The crowd swallowed them whole. We walked for days through the desert to reach the border. When the invasion of our village happened, everything changed in an instant. I remember Faisal as someone who never lost hope even when everything seemed lost. I cherish the memory of the way they would hum while doing chores around the house. The phone number stopped working around 2011. Someone told us they might have made it to Hamilton, but we could never confirm it. Faisal would now be approximately 28 years old.
