My grandmother Nicolas from Quito — we lost touch 8 years ago

I'm searching for Nicolas, my grandmother. They emigrated from Quito in 2018 and we gradually lost contact. Organized crime made our neighborhood unlivable. Leaving was survival. At 46, Nicolas was old enough to know the risks but young enough to believe it was worth it. For a while, things were good. Nicolas called regularly from New Jersey, talking about work in car washes, about the language barrier. They sent money home when they could, which helped us survive. Our last contact was 2019. Life got complicated on both ends and the calls became less frequent until they stopped entirely. Nicolas had a way of making everyone laugh. Nicolas would be around 54 now. tall, around 6'1", slender, with a warm smile. The holidays are the hardest — their empty chair at the table speaks volumes.
