Sara — lost during the war in Latakia, 2016

My friend, Sara, and I were separated during the conflict in Latakia in 2016. I have spent every moment since trying to find them. We fled with nothing — no documents, no money, just terror. Sara was with us until the very last moment before the airstrike that leveled our block. I remember Sara as someone who loved to cook traditional dishes for everyone. I cherish the memory of the way they would hum while doing chores around the house. The last time we heard anything was 2018. We heard a rumor they had been resettled in United Kingdom, but nothing concrete. Sara would now be approximately 59 years old. They were compact build, thick eyebrows, always well-groomed, with a slight limp in the left leg from an old injury. I still keep their photo in my wallet, worn and faded but precious.
