My sister Javier and I were separated in 2022 during what was supposed to be a routine stop near New York. That was the last time I saw them.
The economy back home left us no choice — we had to seek a better life. At the time, Javier was just 5.
We were caught up in deportation proceedings in New York.
The thing that haunts me is remembering fishing trips to the river, where we never caught anything but always had fun.
The phone number stopped working around 2022. After that, nothing.
Javier would be around 9 years old now. Last I saw them, they were heavyset, with a booming laugh and gentle eyes.
My children ask about them, and I don't have answers to give. If anyone has any information about Javier, please reach out. Any detail, no matter how small, could bring us back together.
