Searching for my birth family from Russia, adopted in 1963

In 1963, I was placed for adoption in Saint Petersburg and raised in Denver. I've always known I was adopted, and I've always wondered about my birth family. I was placed through a local orphanage. The records are incomplete, but I know I came from Saint Petersburg. Growing up, I always felt something was missing. Not love — my adoptive family gave me plenty of that. But identity. Where do my eyes come from? My laugh? My stubborn streak? These are questions only my birth family can answer. I've tried DNA testing, online registries, and even hired a researcher who specializes in Russia adoptions. Each lead brings me a little closer, but I haven't found the answer yet.
