Adopted in 1970 from Bogota — hoping to reconnect with birth family
Sarah Johnson Colombia , Bogota ≈ 1970 63 visualizações
In 1970, I was placed for adoption in Bogota and raised in New York. I've always known I was adopted, and I've always wondered about my birth family.
The adoption was arranged through a local orphanage. My adoptive parents traveled to Bogota to bring me home.
My adoptive parents have always been open about my adoption. They told me what little they knew: that my birth parents faced extreme hardship. That knowledge has always made me want to reach out, not with anger, but with gratitude.
I've tried DNA testing, online registries, and even hired a researcher who specializes in Colombia adoptions. Each lead brings me a little closer, but I haven't found the answer yet.
If you are my birth father, or if you know someone from Bogota who placed a child for adoption around 1970, please know: I am doing well. I am at peace. I would love nothing more than to know you, but I respect whatever boundaries you need. Every time I see someone who looks like them on the street, my heart stops for a moment.
