Hayat — lost during the war in Damascus, 2016

I am searching for Hayat, my son. We were living in Damascus when the conflict forced us apart in 2016. We registered with UNHCR but the paperwork moved slower than our heartbreak. During the airstrike that leveled our block, Hayat was separated from the rest of us. Hayat was 13 years old when we last saw each other. They were the heart and soul of our family. The last time we heard anything was 2022. A fellow refugee mentioned seeing someone matching their description in a camp near Leeds. Hayat would now be approximately 23 years old. I would recognize them anywhere — short and stocky, with a round face and kind eyes. The holidays are the hardest — their empty chair at the table speaks volumes.
