Tigist — if you see this, your family in Ghana is looking for you

My friend Tigist set out from Sekondi-Takoradi in 2009 to build a better life. The plan was for the rest of us to follow. We never did, and somewhere along the way we lost contact. Religious persecution forced our family to flee. Back then, Tigist was 37 years old and believed the separation would be short. We stayed in touch through phone calls and the occasional letter. Tigist spoke of life in Manchester — the challenges of adapting, the loneliness, but also the small victories. There was a brief call in 2024. The phone number was disconnected and we had no other way to reach them. I remember fishing trips to the river, where we never caught anything but always had fun with Tigist.
